Rocker 32 - True Stereo Madness
Many of today's guitarists search for the best amp for their pedalboard, but too often end up with a compromise that's uninspiring and sometimes even lacks character. With the Rocker 32, however, Orange has built the perfect pedal amp.
What makes the Rocker 32 so special? Simple! It's an all-tube stereo guitar amplifier in a compact and portable combo format.
The Rocker 32 can be used like a "normal" combo—directly or with standard mono effects loop connections. Even before you start experimenting, you'll quickly realize that the amp is just another boring, soulless pedalboard, but a serious amplifier in its own right.
The Rocker 32 has plenty of classic Orange mojo, and its 2x10-inch configuration means a full and fat sound in a compact footprint. Some clever circuitry "under the hood" of the amp also allows for a wider sound dispersion than is the case with most twin-speaker combos.
The heart of the Rocker 32 is its stereo effects loop, which opens up a world of limitless possibilities for any pedalboard. If you're looking for epic panning delays and massive soundscapes, use the amp in full stereo mode. For a more old-school experience, the FX pedals can be patched in "Wet/Dry" mode, with the effects played by one speaker and the unaltered guitar tone by the other. This provides great separation and sonic clarity on stage or in the studio.
The front end of the Rocker 32 is unique. The Natural channel has a single control (volume) and has been carefully tuned to bring out every nuance of different guitars, pickups, and pedal combinations. There's plenty of clean headroom available here, which can also be filled with overdrive and distortion pedals.
The Dirty channel looks more familiar, with a three-band EQ, gain, and master volume controls, delivering all sorts of flavors of British crunch—but can also be set to clean.
There's a handy Half-Power mode to reduce the volume when you want to drive the EL84 power tubes a bit hotter for more saturation. This reduces the Rocker 32 from its full 30 watts (15 W per side) to a more living room-friendly 15 watts (7 W per side).
Mono or Stereo Operation
There are some great studio-quality stereo guitar effects available for guitarists these days. However, to fully utilize these and their full potential, you would normally need two amplifiers. The Rocker 32 features a stereo effects return with two separate tube output stages, allowing the full potential of a pedalboard to be realized with just a single stereo combo.
Of course, the Rocker 32 also functions like any other mono amp, but the FX loop can also be patched in a variety of ways to achieve stereo panning effects, a wet/dry setup, or even run separate effects chains (using an ABY splitter). Endless possibilities!
Big Sound, Small Chassis
The Rocker 32's clever dual power amp design and 2x10-inch speaker configuration ensure that this amp sounds much "bigger" than its dimensions suggest. One output stage features its own cathode follower, which adds a subtle extension effect to the sound, even in mono mode, adding an extra dimension.
With a sensitivity of 101 dB, the custom-built Voice of the World Gold Label speakers squeeze the most out of every available watt. This high level of efficiency and a surprisingly powerful low end ensure brilliant projection while maintaining the clear, chiming sound you'd expect from a great 10-inch speaker.
Designed to be played
For the best possible sound and durability, the Rocker 15 uses the same proprietary transformers found in the legendary Orange Terror models. Like the manufacturer's flagship tube amps, the Rocker combos forgo plastic terminal blocks and ribbon cables in favor of hand-soldered, flying leads. All controls and switches are permanently mounted to the chassis, and the combo cabinet uses robust 18 mm plywood. There are no compromises in the effects loop either. It is tube-driven to keep the entire signal path in an all-tube design and thus preserve the tonal integrity of the amplifier.
